A browser ready for the web

Goona Browser is a free, opensource and fully standards-compliant webbrowser for Microsoft Windows XP, Vista and 7. Released for free under the GNU General Public License 3, this webbrowser has a actractive user interface, many features and some new ideas to make browsing a easy and practical task.

Here is a non-exaustive list of the features:

  • Dual-engine: allows you two choose which rendering engine you want to use: Gecko (which powers Firefox) or Webkit (which powers Google Chrome and Apple Safari)
  • Powerful download manager: not a simple download manager as we find on many browsers. With this download manager, you can download files, videos and entire websites. Provides support for download pausing and multi-threading (various segments). And lot's more.
  • Favorites and history: Goona Browser let's you mark your favorite pages, and also saves a detailed history of your browsing. The history is so detailed that you can even see thumbnails of the pages you visited, as they were when you visited them.
  • Tabbed web browsing: almost any modern browser has this, but Goona Browser has a difference - when you hover the mouse on the tabs, a thumbnail of the tab appears below it, just like in Windows Aero taskbar!
  • Windows Aero Effects: The user interface of Goona Browser includes Windows Aero (R) transparency when you're using the Windows Aero theme on Windows Vista or Windows 7. This feature can be disabled for a better performance on old computers.

    Fully standards-compilant

    When using Goona Browser, you can choose between Gecko and Webkit to browse the web. Both provide a standard-compilant (standards such as CSS, JavaScript, etc) browsing.

    The use of Gecko will provide you a Mozilla Firefox 3.5 like browsing. The version of XULRunner Goona Browser uses is updated to the latest version, resulting in a performance equivalent to Firefox. This makes Goona Browser compatible with almost any web services and web sites, so you don't need to worry about changing of browser (or even installing a new browser) to visit a website.

    The use of WebKit will provide you a Google Chrome or Apple Safari-like Webbrowsing. Althrough, it use is not recommended by now, since the .NET port of WebKit Goona Browser uses is in a early beta stage. Also, some pages with textboxes may not appear correctly under WebKit because Webkit puts a shine around the selected textbox - this sometimes gives problems in CSS enabled webpages.

    Minimal requirements

    Minimal requirements for Goona Browser aren't very low, but a computer with around five years old is still able to use it. The best to do is checking the items above to check if your computer is over the following specifications:

  • Operating System: 32-bit Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 with .NET Framework 3.5 installed. On Windows XP and Vista you will also need to have Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable installed.
  • RAM Memory: This depends on the amount of tabs you have open at the same time. For one tab or two, minimum RAM is 1GB. If you want more tabs and download manager working at the same time, you'll need 2GB of RAM.
  • Processor (CPU): Goona Browser needs a 32-bit operating system, and at least 1,5Ghz speed CPU. It may work with less, but slower.
  • Screen: 1024x768 resolution or more. Goona Browser wasn't designed to work under smaller resolutions.
